Brock Orr Enjoys Helping Others

Brock is a member of Boy Scout Troop 62 and prides himself in being courteous to others and helping out whenever he can.  He joined Cub Scouts in 2006 and earned the Arrow of Light Award.  He advanced to the Boy Scouts in 2007 and since then has earned 24 Merit Badges including 10 of the 12 required for Eagle Scout.  Some of his favorite Merit Badges were Oceanography, Veterinary Medicine, Archery and the three Citizenship Badges (Community, Nation & World).  One of the most challenging was when he achieved the Hiking Merit Badge.  This required (5) 10 mile hikes and (1) 20 mile hike.  All of the boys were glad when this one was finished!

Brock has advanced through six ranks to his current level of Life Scout, which is just one level away from Eagle Scout.  In the past 2 years he has performed over 44 hours of community service.  Even with all the fun activities the boys do, Brock really enjoys the volunteer opportunities.  In the past they have helped serve or clean up at the Wyoming Fish Fry, Oxford Junction Legion dinners, Ducks Unlimited banquets, etc.  They have also performed outdoor clean-up projects such as working at the local cemeteries, or cleaning up the walking trail in Oxford Junction.  Brock always looks forward to working the Wyoming Fish Fry every year, because it gives him an opportunity to talk to a lot of people he knows.

Along with Summer Camp, this year Brock is planning his trip to the National Jamboree which will be held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.  The contingent from Eastern Iowa will spend 5 days in Washington DC including the opportunity to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  They will then travel to the Jamboree grounds where they will spend 10 days with 45,000 other Scouts from all over the United States.
