ELMO - Eagle Leaders Motivating Others

SPONSOR: Miss Kristina Doll

ELMO is a club for only middle schoolers at Midland. ELMO stands for Eagle Leaders Motivating Others. This club is a joint project between Midland Schools and Jones County ASAC.

This group will be focusing on drug and alcohol prevention, leadership, positive peer role modeling and community involvement. Students will discuss drug and alcohol prevention within their community, and among their peers, with hopes that they will show leadership in this area in the future.

This group offers a new group opportunity for some of our students. Small groups provide not only the opportunity for additional learning experiences but also a time of sharing and a time of growing together with fellow students. Small groups give the students a chance to belong, a chance to express themselves, and a chance to benefit from the support of group members. Members will be seen as leaders by joining this group which will meet twice a month during lunch.

Any student interested in joining this group should see Miss Doll in the library and pick up a permission slip that needs signed by both the parent and student and return it to the sponsor.

Eagle Leaders Motivating Others busily working on heart pillows. Their service project this year is making heart pillows to donate to the area hospitals for heart surgery patients. They are helping Jan Henkes cut out the shapes and stuff them. So far they have finished about 25 pillows and that is just the beginning.

The ELMO students are also making fleece tie blankets to donate to DHS. They have a few done already with enough fleece to make at least 20 blankets.
