Midland Silver Service Honor Cord

Midland Silver Service Honor Cord (revised 10/26/2020)

The goal of the Silver Service Cord is to recognize students who have contributed to their community or school by volunteering their time and talents. An increasing number of scholarship applications require applicants to list service experiences. Volunteer time often leads to employment and future educational opportunities as well as enabling students to understand the connection between school, work, and community.

Interested MHS students must complete 300 hours of service during four years of high school starting with the summer after eighth grade. Volunteers will document all work and will obtain the signature of the individual or official representative of the benefitting organization on the documentation. Documentation sheets may be obtained in the student handout binds outside the main office or can be downloaded from the bottom of this page. Completed hours can be submitted at any time to the principal. Seniors must have their hours completed and turned into the principal by May 1 to receive the silver cord and to be recognized at graduation.

Volunteer hours may be performed for community organizations, church, or school. If you are unsure whether a particular activity qualifies for the program, see the principal for approval before completing the work. Opportunities are posted in the school announcements as they come available.
