Jamie Christiansen’s work at Midland High School showcases the impact of innovative teaching in agricultural education.
A unique project emerged when former student and swine producer, Eli Slouha, asked if her ARD students could help market his purebred Berkshire pork. The students jumped in, creating data and fact sheets for Eli’s marketing efforts.
A key challenge was measuring pork tenderness. With John Bergin’s advice, students used a force sensor to develop a protocol comparing Eli’s pork to that from Fareway and Walmart.
This real-world project gave her students valuable hands-on experience while supporting local agriculture!
Congratulations Ms. Christiansen on this award and keep exposing our students to many life long learning lessons!
