Athletic Booster meetings are scheduled the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30PM usually in the high school library. All parents of athletes in grades 6-12 welcome and encouraged to attend!
There are a lot of ways you can help the boosters – attending meetings and giving ideas, organizing food stand workers, inventorying food stand supplies, picking up food stand supplies at Sam’s Club, inventorying/ordering beverages, coordinating apparel orders, etc. If you can help in one of these other ways it can replace food stand worker assignments. Please let an officer know how you can help them out.
BOOSTER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS SOUGHT
Each school year we will present a Booster of the Year Award to an individual, organization, business in our community who has gone above and beyond to support our athletic program. To nominate someone send a letter with details on why you feel they should be our Booster of the Year. The letter can be given to any Athletic Booster Officer or sent to Midland Schools, PO Box 109, Wyoming, IA 52362.
Thanks to ALL who help our athletic programs in any way. We have a LOT of very dedicated individuals who help us host our events and run our special events each year! We couldn’t do it without you. GO EAGLES!
SCHEPANSKI NAMED 2020 MIDLAND ATHLETIC BOOSTER OF THE YEAR!
Congratulations to Daryl Schepanski, the sports writer for the Anamosa Journal-Eureka who was named the 19-20 Midland Athletic Booster of the Year at their winter sports banquet recently.
His nomination letter to the booster officers said “Daryl has not only faithfully covered Midland Athletics since the loss of our local publication, he continuously shows genuine interest in our kids and the way they are portrayed in the public eye through his position at the Anamosa Journal. Daryl often covers many events from several schools all on the same day. This often requires much travel and tight scheduling that must be nearly impossible to pull off at times. With rare exception Daryl is always there to cover post season games. Daryl’s coverage between Midland, Springville and the Journal’s home town of Anamosa, is very equitable and well done even when the schools find themselves in direct competition with each other.”
Thanks Daryl for your dedication to Midland!
NOTE: The concession stand at home athletic events is run by parent volunteers. The profit from the concession stand is used to purchase uniforms, equipment that the AD can’t purchase, and supplies to support our student athletes (posters and stuff for Homecoming mostly at this time). If other groups want to sell food at a home event or use Booster equipment at a event, please have that sponsor attend a meeting and ask us. It is not OK for a group to just assume they can hold a supper during a basketball game. We plan inventory and schedule our workers accordingly. We can’t give up every Friday or Saturday quad basketball date to other groups. I can’t remember when we have ever told any group they could not sell food, but it is only right that the sponsor and students learn that one must ask and be given permission to do something of this nature.
